We're Farmington residents of 12 years, with a healthy, functioning septic system. However, one of our neighbors has a system that has been failing since the day we moved in, 12 years ago. When it rains, their raw sewage runs through our lawn, and our kids cannot play outside, nor can our dog be let out. We've had to move outdoor parties inside because of the smell, and if we needed to move right now, I'm sure we wouldn't be able to sell our house. The health department has been out several times to confirm the problem, but they stop short of condemning the house, in hopes that a sewer system will be put in place soon. (Because the land doesn't perk, a new septic system is not an option).
Of course, we are totally in favor of this sewer project. I know that it's a big expense, but waiting will only make it a bigger expense. As someone said at the meeting, "If your roof was leaking, would you ignore it, or find a way to get it fixed?" We now have a way to get it fixed. If your system is not failing and you are financially strapped at the present, I suggest supporting the project, paying the minimum $24.95/month, and you'll have seven years to save the money to tap on. To continue to ignore the problem is to continue to degrade your home's value, along with all of your neighbors.
Please consider supporting the sewer project!
